Ruud® Pro Partner Spotlight
Name: John Roberts, Division President of Residential Services, LBA Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing
Location: Kansas City, KS
How long have you worked in the HVAC Industry?
Wow, let me think. I’ve been in the HVAC industry for more than 30 years—I started in 1983 by accident. I was in college and working in a hospital as a pharmacy technician looking to become a pharmacist. After hospital-wide lay-offs, my friend told me about an opening at a HVAC manufacturing company. I took that job and in 2013, I switched from manufacturing to the contractor side.
Tell us about LBA.
LBA has been in business in the Kansas City area since 1985 and has three divisions—residential, commercial and construction. We are a company with the leadership, operational capacity and capability of a much larger organization while having the flexibility and responsiveness of a small company. Our service technicians, plumbers and installers have the experience and expertise needed to successfully address any residential HVAC or plumbing challenges.
What are your experiences with KwikComfort® Financing? How does it help you and your customers?
We are big fans of KwikComfort Financing and Synchrony Bank because it allows us to sell upgraded equipment while giving our customers an opportunity to budget for their heating and air solutions. When equipment fails, a lot of people can’t afford to scrape up thousands and thousands of dollars for a replacement unit, so it’s great to be able to offer financing on the spot.
Our LBA Comfort Consultants show customers an initial list of four system options all of which include monthly financing options. Many times, after seeing the break-down of potential monthly payments, homeowners tend to upgrade their HVAC units. It’s a win-win because we sell more and they get something that will save them energy and money on utility costs in the future.
How involved are you with the Pro Partner program?
LBA was recently recognized as a 2016 Ruud Top 20 Pro Partner winner. This award has already helped us market our business and stand out from the competition. We also participated in the Ruud Pro Partner National Conference in May, which was, by far the most impressive HVAC conference I’ve ever been to—and I’ve participated in a lot within the 30 plus years in the business. It was first class experience with amazing prizes and entertainment. I also got a chance to be on the Pro Partner panel at the conference and that was exciting as well to be able to share my knowledge to a crowd of people with similar interests and daily business challenges.
What do you like best about being a Pro Partner? How does it help your business grow?
We have been selling Ruud HVAC equipment for more than two years now and the Pro Partner program has given us the ability to differentiate us from the competition. From equipment training to marketing tools, we have been very pleased with the Pro Partner program, Ruud products and the entire Ruud team.
